Hikari Farms is a woman- and AAPI-owned organic greenhouse farm in Santa Cruz County specializing in Asian greens and Japanese cucumbers. The Nagamine family originally established their farm as a flower nursery in 1967, but soon diversified into East Asian heirloom crops. Today, they continue to honor the heritage of their crops by preserving farming traditions native to the family’s homeland in Kagoshima, Japan—for example, using シュロの皮, or rope from palm tree skins resistant to temperature and mold.
