CROPP Cooperative (doing business as Organic Valley) is a farmer-owned organic food cooperative founded in 1988 in southwestern Wisconsin by a small group of family farms looking for a sustainable alternative to conventional agriculture. Over the years it has grown into the largest independent organic farmer cooperative in the United States, with nearly 1,800 member-farmers across dozens of states producing dairy, eggs, meat, soy and produce under strict certified-organic standards. The cooperative remains committed to its founding mission of protecting the land, animals and rural communities by paying farmer-owners first, maintaining cooperative governance, and emphasizing ecological, social and economic sustainability.
