Sustainability of the shrimp resource is the act of managing its overall population for the benefit of the species’ long-term survival… while looking after both the waters from which the shrimp are harvested and the livelihoods of the communities that depend on them. At Paul Piazza & Son, Inc. we believe it is our responsibility to assume a leadership role within our fisheries. We actively promote sustainability in the following ways: 1. Buying only from shrimp fishermen who follow sustainable practices. Our fishermen operate sustainable vessels and follow sustainable shrimp fishing and harvesting practices. Our fishermen are guided by a “sustainability covenant” with us. It addresses all permits required by state and federal authorities, and assures that they follow all applicable regulations. 2. Working closely with state and federal agencies and non-government organizations. We do this not because we are required to do so – but because our business, the livelihood of our fishermen, the vitality of our communities, and our heritage depend on it.
